Editorial policy

Recyclr publishes two kinds of content: a directory of waste carriers built from public registers, and a set of guides about dealing with waste in the UK. This page explains how each is produced, what it is for, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

The guides

Who writes them

The guides are written and reviewed by the Recyclr editorial team. We are not solicitors and the guides are not legal advice. They are general information to help you understand your responsibilities and your options; for a decision that turns on your circumstances, check the primary source or take professional advice.

What they are checked against

Every factual claim in a guide is traced to a primary source before it is published: legislation on legislation.gov.uk, official guidance on GOV.UK and the environmental regulators' own sites, and the public registers of waste carriers, brokers and dealers. Each guide lists its sources at the end so you can read them yourself. We do not publish figures we cannot source, and where a rule differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland we say so.

How they are kept current

Each guide carries a “last reviewed” date. That date changes only when a member of the team has re-read the guide against its sources and either confirmed it or corrected it. We re-review when the rules a guide describes change, and when a reader tells us something is out of date. If a guide's date looks old, treat the primary sources as authoritative.

Independence

Guides do not recommend individual businesses. Where a guide links to the directory it links to a list of licence holders for a place or a service, never to one carrier. No business can pay to be named in a guide.

The directory

Where the data comes from

Listings start from the public register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers maintained by the Environment Agency, and the equivalent registers kept by SEPA, Natural Resources Wales and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. A listing's registration number, tier and expiry are read from the register and re-checked against it on a scheduled sweep; each listing shows when its licence was last checked.

What a listing does and does not tell you

A registration is a legal permission to transport waste. It is not a review of the business, and it is not evidence that the business offers collection to the public. We show the register facts and, where a business has published them, ratings and details from other services with their source named. Where a listing has been claimed by the business, the description, photos and prices are the business's own words. Claiming a listing is free and does not change what the register says about it.

Corrections

If a guide is wrong, or a listing shows a business incorrectly, tell us at contact@recyclr.co.uk or through the contact page. Say which page and what is wrong. A business that wants its listing removed can ask from the link at the foot of its own listing. Corrections to guides are made on the page itself and the review date is updated.
